The primary product produced at the Hay Farm is a premium quality grass hay, which is a high mountain native grass mix.
The grass mix is primarily Timothy/Brome/Orchard Grass and Clover.
The Farm produces its product in a 3x3x8 large bale format
The bales weighing approximately 720 lbs per bale.
The Property has two Creeks that run through it; Grape Creek & Macey Creek. These creeks are fed through snow melt from the Sangre de Cristo mountain range.
The Property has 2 named and deeded water rights from Macey Creek. Water rights are controlled on a “Priority” system based on the date of each individual water right. When the Water Right enters into “Priority”, then the owner has the right to divert a certain amount of water (measured in Cubic Feet per Second) out of the creek and onto the farm property.
The diverted water is then sent down a series of ditches developed by the farm to distribute the water onto the fields through a “Flood Irrigation” process.
The water usually comes off the mountains in early May and runs until we are no longer in “Priority”, which is usually 4-8 weeks.
